The London Borough of Southwark was formed in 1965 and consists of the metropolitan boroughs of Bermondsey, Camberwell and Southwark. The borough stretches five miles (8 km) to the south in a roughly triangular shape to the site of the Crystal Palace and has some of the most diverse townscapes anywhere in London.

These range from the very urban north with its mixture of new and old, residential and industrial, commercial and recreational through areas of largely intact 19th-century suburban development to its leafy spacious south.

Sitting within the SE1 postcode district, Southwark is located conveniently close to the bustling heart of business that is the City of London and the area has developed into a business hub of its own within recent years. Many new developments have been completed on the beautiful south side of the river within the past decade and the expansion in the area doesn't show any signs of slowing, particularly with the current construction of One Blackfriars Tower and the regeneration of the surrounding area.
